The SGH Visiting PhD Fellowship Program at the SGH Doctoral School

The SGH Visiting PhD Fellowship Program at the SGH Doctoral School offers doctoral candidates the opportunity to engage in self-directed research while integrating into a vibrant academic community of the SGH Warsaw School of Economics. This program aims to foster scholarly exchange, enhance research quality, and build networks among early career and established scholars. Following successful completion of their fellowship, fellowship holders receive certificates confirming their work and achievements attained during their stay at the SGH Doctoral School.

Goals and Objectives

The objective of the SGH Visiting PhD Fellowship Program is to provide doctoral researchers with an environment conducive to advancing their dissertations or related projects, including:

  • Facilitating access to specialized resources and expertise.
  • Encouraging collaboration with faculty and peers.
  • Promoting the dissemination of research findings through presentations and publications.
Eligibility

Eligibility criteria include: 

  • Enrollment in a recognized doctoral program.
  • Research interests aligning with the host institution’s focus areas.
  • Demonstrated potential to contribute to the academic community.
Financing & Duration
  • The SGH Visiting PhD Fellowship Program is based on the principle that fellows are responsible for their own funding, including travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Applicants are encouraged to seek external funding or scholarships to support their stay. This could include Erasmus+, CIVICA, and other sources of funding. 
  • The duration of the fellowship may vary but typically ranges from 1 to 5 months, and ideally should be aligned with the semester schedule.
Selection Criteria & the Application Process

Selection of candidates is based on the following factors:

  • Scholarly Merit: Quality and relevance of the applicant’s research proposal.
  • Alignment: Consistency between the applicant’s research interests and the SGH institution’s focus areas.
  • Contribution Potential: Ability to enrich the SGH’s academic environment. 

The Application Process 

Should you be interested in applying, please, submit the following documents to the SGH Doctoral School Office: bsd@sgh.waw.pl

  • Letter of intent (ca 1 page)
  • Your research proposal, including: title, abstract, key words, research puzzle & research questions, methods and materials, indication of key sources (max 4 pages, Calibri 11, single spacing)
  • CV, including your publication record (if applicable)
  • Letter of recommendation from your current supervisor
Expectations

Visiting PhD Fellows are typically expected to:

  • Presentation: Share their research findings through seminars or workshops
  • Publication: Aim to publish their research in reputable academic outlets
  • Engagement: Participate actively in the host institution’s academic activities
