Eligibility Requirements for the Master’s Degree Diploma Examination

To be eligible for the Master’s Degree diploma examination, students need to complete their degree programme, submit their thesis, obtain a positive review, and have no outstanding financial obligations.

To be admitted to the diploma examination at the second‑cycle (Master’s) level, a student must:

  • Complete the study programme for the relevant degree,
  • Submit a diploma thesis,
  • obtain a positive thesis review,
  • settle any outstanding financial obligations to the University.

If all required documents have been correctly submitted, the student has been granted degree completion status (absolutorium), there are no outstanding financial obligations to the University, and a positive thesis review has been issued, the student is admitted to the diploma examination.

If the documentation is incomplete or incorrectly completed, the thesis will not be accepted until the deficiencies have been corrected.

In accordance with § 8(2) of Appendix No. 1 to the Study Regulations, the student has 7 days to rectify any missing or incorrect documents.

If a student has not been granted degree completion status (absolutorium) or has failed to settle financial obligations to the University, they will not be admitted to the diploma examination.

Completion of the Study Programme (absolutorium)

The basic requirement for admission to the diploma examination is the completion of the minimum credit requirement. Over the course of four semesters, students must obtain at least 120 ECTS credits and complete all programme‑specific compulsory courses, in accordance with the study programme and study plan applicable to their major (degree programme).

Students are assessed in line with the study programme in force at the time they commenced their studies, unless they were removed from the student register. In such cases, following reinstatement, students are assessed according to the study programme applicable to the cohort to which they were reinstated.
Both the total number of ECTS credits and their appropriate structure are important.

Students are therefore encouraged to pay close attention to these requirements, particularly before their final semester, in order to make up for any missing credits from the appropriate category of courses if necessary.

The Student Support Officers assigned to the relevant major verify and confirm the completion of study requirements after the submission of the Master’s thesis.

Review of the Diploma Thesis

The reviewer is appointed by the Dean and is informed of the appointment via email sent to an address in the @sgh.waw.pl domain.
The review should be completed within 15 days from the date on which the reviewer is notified of their appointment.
The supervisor’s assessment will become visible to the reviewer only after the reviewer has approved and submitted their review.

Review criteria

The reviewer assesses the thesis based on both academic (substantive) and formal criteria.

Academic (substantive) criteria

The assessment of the extent to which the diploma thesis meets academic requirements includes the following components:

  • appropriateness of the thesis topic and relevance of the content,
  • structure of the thesis,
  • method of addressing and solving the research problem,
  • ability to apply knowledge related to the relevant learning outcomes associated with the diploma thesis,
  • mastery of the skills specified in the learning outcomes for the degree programme,
  • use of relevant academic literature.

Formal criteria
The assessment of the extent to which the diploma thesis meets formal requirements includes the following elements:

  • ability to produce a coherent and logically structured text,
  • linguistic accuracy,
  • overall presentation and editing of the thesis.

Negative review

In the event of a negative review, the thesis is submitted for assessment to a second reviewer appointed by the Dean. The final grade is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the grades from both reviews.
If the second review is also negative, the student is required to prepare a new diploma thesis.
