About the Doctoral School

The aim of the SGH Doctoral School is to prepare students to conduct research work essential for writing and defending a doctoral dissertation and to provide state-of-the-art global knowledge in selected areas of social sciences and research methodology in the field of learning outcomes for qualifications at the 8th level of the Polish Qualifications Framework.

The Doctoral School at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics educates the high class staff for:

  • science, including universities and scientific institutions,
  • business practice, in particular enterprises and financial institutions,
  • government and local government institutions, international organizations.

SGH is authorised to award the scientific degree of Doctor of Social Sciences in the following three disciplines:

  • Economics and Finance,
  • Management and Quality Sciences,
  • Political and Administration Sciences.

From the academic year 2021/2022, education at the Doctoral School is provided in two profiles:

  • Implementation doctorate profile – for doctoral students who participate in the „Implementation Doctorate Program”.
  • General academic profile – suitable for the majority of doctoral students.

Membership

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

SGH has been a member of the CESEENET network since 2007, allowing participation in classes at partner universities. Involvement in these classes requires a nomination from the home university.

NCN Preludium Projects:

  1. Researcher: mgr Aleksandra Tołczyk
    Project Title: “Countering Radicalization in Muslim Communities in the Anti-Terrorist Policies of the United Kingdom and the United States”

  2. Researcher: mgr Łukasz Below 
    Project Title: “Perception of Inflation by Citizens and Implications of Alternative Inflation Measures in the Monetary Policy Decision-Making Process”
    Supervisor: prof. SGH dr. hab. Marcin Kolasa   
    Start Date: June 25, 2020 End Date: June 24, 2023.

Ster programme

In the framework of the NAWA STER programme „Internationalisation of doctoral schools” the SGH Doctoral School has implemented the project named „Strengthening the SGH Doctoral School’s Position within the Framework of the International Area of Doctoral Education – Internationalisation of the SGH Doctoral School”.

  • The duration of the project is 36 months from January 3, 2022 until December 31, 2024,
  • In the project, the following tasks are planned to push further the internationalisation of the SGH Doctoral School.

Task 1: Activities related to the admission of foreign doctoral students.

Task 2: Payment of NAWA scholarships for the best foreign doctoral students – 12-month scholarships from the STER Project’s funds for the best doctoral students after having met conditions outlined in the Project Regulations. Qualifying individuals will be foreigners or Polish nationals with a Master’s degree from a foreign university.

Task 3: Support of foreign mobility for the best SGH Doctoral School students from Poland and abroad through scholarships financing stays at renowned foreign universities in the OECD countries.

Task 4: Activities related to “at home” internationalisation.

Task 5: Developing international cooperation of doctoral schools.

Task 6. Activities related to the content management of the Project .
