What is the participatory budget?

The participatory budget is a co-management (participatory management) mechanism based on the inclusion of a wide circle of stakeholders into the decision-making on the allocation of a specific part of the budget in an institution or organisation.

In the case of the Student and PhD Student Participatory Budget at the Warsaw School of Economics, the budget for 2021 amounts to PLN 25,000. The students and PhD students are able to submit proposals on the expenditure of this amount. The concepts for implementation are chosen by means of a general vote. The maximum value of a single project submitted can equal the entire amount to be distributed, i.e. up to PLN 35,000.

The Participatory Budget’s theme is “Ecological Innovations”. Students and PhD students can submit projects aimed at improving the conditions of study and comprehensive development of students and doctoral students at the School, which also fit into the theme – they take into account the context of environmental protection and pro-ecological activities. These can especially include projects intended at:

  • improving the School’s infrastructure used by students and PhD students,
  • promoting health and growth of ecological awareness among the academic community members,
  • improving the study comfort.

It is possible to put forward permanent initiatives (e.g. infrastructural) and one-time initiatives (e.g. events, campaigns among the academic community, organisational solutions), except for initiatives organised directly by the School’s Student Organisations (SSOs).

The Participatory Budget does not cover the following:

  • granting additional cash benefits,
  • funding of projects organised directly by the School’s Student Organisations,
  • tasks contrary to the School’s mission,
  • projects that entail obtaining financial benefits by the applicants.

Who can submit a project?

Projects can be submitted by any student of first and second degree as well as PhD student of the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, both individually and in groups of no more than five people. You can be an author or co-author of a maximum of three projects.

Promotion of submitted concepts

After the completion of project submission and verification by the Student and Doctoral Student Participatory Budget Committee, the submitted proposals will be presented to the School’s community on this website. You can also promote the submitted concepts on your own.
