Université Laval

Université Laval is a French-language, public research university in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The University was founded by royal charter issued by Queen Victoria in 1852, making it the oldest centre of higher education in Canada and the first North American institution to offer higher education in French. The university is ranked among the top 10 Canadian universities in terms of research funding and holds 4 Canada Excellence Research Chairs.

FSA ULaval (Faculty of administrative sciences) as part of a select group of business schools that hold the prestigious AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and EQUIS (European Foundation for Management Development) accreditations attracts and trains the business world elite.

Master thesis
  • Student course selection must be approved by each person in charge of his or her respective program and must abide by the conditions set forth for the academic program in question. Each program directorate agrees to take all necessary measures to ensure that the assessment specific to the selected courses be carried out in such a manner as to enable the students to begin the following semester at the other university within the prescribed deadlines.
  • In addition to the mandatory coursework at both institutions, as set forth in the agreement, the double degree student is required to prepare and pass:
    • MNG-6525: Competing in a Global Arena: an Integrative Project [Integrative Project] at ULaval), MNG-6510 Projet d’intervention en entreprise (for students in MBA Gestion des entreprises) or a Projet de fin d’études (for students in MBA Gestion internationale) that are worth 6 credits at ULaval which equals to 12 ECTS at SGH;
    • Master Thesis at SGH (worth 20 ECTS at SGH which equals to 10 credits at ULaval).
  • The partner institutions assure the legal and organizational preconditions required for enabling the double degree students to start the Integrative Project and Master Thesis.
  • The management process of the preparation of the Integrative Project should meet all the legal and academic constraints of ULaval.
  • The management process of the preparation of the Master Thesis should meet all the legal and academic constraints of SGH.
  • According to the Article 76 paragraph 4 of the Polish Law on Higher Education and Science, all Master Theses written at SGH must pass through the Unified Anti-Plagiarism System (APD). An appropriate procedure will be prepared in a separate document.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE DOUBLE DEGREE TRACK

Admission, enrolment and tuition fees

  • The persons in charge of the double degree track determine, in concert and on an annual basis, the number of students that may take part in this track. The number of students from each establishment must abide by the principle of parity. Each institution has the right to admit up to 3 students per year to the double degree program, unless this number is varied by mutual and written attachment to this agreement.
  • Students pay the tuition fees in their home establishment. The establishments agree to select the best candidates, in accordance with the terms and conditions prescribed by each program directorate. All candidates must meet the admission requirements for both programs. 
  • SGH students to FSA ULaval:
  • Should have a bachelor degree or equivalent in business, commerce, management or related. During the interviews and validation of previous transcripts, both schools will verify if the students meet admission criteria’s.
  • Must have obtained a minimum average of 4.0 out of 5.0 at the end of the bachelor level studies.
  • Must be able to work with basic computer tools (Word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • During the application process, students have to provide these documents:
  • A letter of interest outlining the reasons for wanting to do a graduate degree (maximum two pages);
  • A curriculum vitæ;
  • A complete set of transcripts: high-school baccalaureate examinations transcript and all university transcripts (including preparatory courses and courses taken at any postsecondary institution);
  • Documents verifying the current level of proficiency in English (transcripts or internationally recognized tests).

Knowledge of English (for both SGH Students and FSA ULaval Students)

  • All double degree candidates must provide evidence of a satisfactory level of English language proficiency. To prove their level of English proficiency, double degree candidate must present the results of one of the following tests:
  • Common European Framework (CEF): Level B2
  • Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC): 825/990
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL – ITP): 549/677
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5
  • Versant English Placement Test (VEPT): 63/70

Knowledge of French (graduation requirements (for both SGH Students and FSA ULaval Global Business Students)

  • Students must submit an official document or pass a test verifying their current level of proficiency in French for graduation. The minimum level of proficiency required for graduation corresponds to Langue orale et écrite – intermédiaire (FLE-2114) as defined by the École des langues de l’Université Laval (ELUL). Knowledge of French can be evaluated by the Test de français international (TFI), in which a minimum score of 440/990 is required. Students who do not obtain the required result must do whatever is necessary to satisfy the minimum requirement before graduation. The ELUL may recommend make-up courses, and a range of intensive programs is available throughout the year. It should be noted that language courses do not count towards the credit requirements of graduate-level programs.
  • A student who has been selected in one university must then submit an admission application and enrol in the master’s program at the other university. The persons in charge of the double degree track agree to send the records of each selected student to each other in a timely manner so as to allow said students to be admitted and enrolled in both universities within the prescribed deadlines.

Double degree academic program

  • The double degree track brings together two pre-existing academic programs: their respective pedagogical objectives and structure remain unchanged.
  • The MBAs Global Business, Gestion internationale and Gestion des entreprises at Université Laval consists of a total of 45 credits; the Master of Global Business, Finance and Governance and the Magister Globalny Biznes, Finanse i Zarządzanie (Governance) at SGH Warsaw School of Economics consists of a total of 120 ECTS. Each program’s structure and courses which form the double degree are presented in the Tables 3, 4 and 5. The establishments may amend the course lists to reflect the evolution of the program of which the double degree track is part. The persons in charge of the track shall keep each other informed of any changes in the course offering of the program offered by their respective establishment.
  • The length of the double degree track is two years: 2 semesters at SGH and 3 trimesters at FSA ULaval. Students are required to undertake a stay of at least 1 year in each establishment, where they will complete the selected courses.

Documents required from the SGH candidates to double degree program include (all documents should be prepared in English):

  • A motivation letter addressed to Selection Commission to double degree program between Université Laval and SGH Warsaw School of Economics (in English, max. 1 page)
  • Copy of the BA diploma
  • Official course transcript or diploma supplement with grades received (in English)
  • Document certifying fluency in English and French
  • The first draft of the study program (preferred field of study/study path, list of academic interests, etc.)
