Extending the session – Graduate Studies

The rules of conducting the examination session are outlined in the Rules and Regulations of First and Second Cycle Study Programme and Long Cycle Programme at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics. There shall be two sits scheduled for every course: the first sit and the re-sit. The academic teacher may conduct the exam in the so called „zero term” (“early examination date”), i.e., before examination session starts.

Attending “zero term” exam is optional for student but attending that exam the student confirms that he or she used one of the sits he or she had the right to.

Students, who failed or has been absent at the exam in the first sit, have the right to attend the re-sit exam. In the case of justified absence during one of the sits and failing another one, student keeps his or her right to attend the exam during additional term. Student may request for extension of the examination session to attend the additional term of exam.

Justification of the student’s absence during the exam and receiving the right to extension of examination session is possible under the conditions specified below:

Collision of exam dates

Pursuant to § 23 points 6 and 8 of the Study Rules and Regulations collision appears when there are more than two examinations scheduled for one student on one day of session (for extramural programme students – three exams) or should at least two examinations overlap. When such situation takes place, the student should:

  • inform about the collision via the Student’s Support Person not later than 6 days before the examination scheduled and indicate one of the overlapped exams, he or she will take part in,
  • submit the application requesting for extension of examination session to attend the additional term of exam in case of failing during the re-sit. The right to attend the additional term of exam concerns only those courses in case of which student has informed about collision before.

Inability to take the exam, confirmed by a medical certificate

Pursuant to § 23 point 7 of the Study Rules and Regulations, on student request confirmed by a medical certificate, the Dean may extend his or her examination session so student shall have a right to take the exam in an extended session. In this case the student should:

  • send an email from SGH domain to his or her Student’s Support Person with information about his or her absence certified medically; documents shall be send at last 4 days since the day of submission of certificate (including the day of submission),
  • submit the application requesting for extension of examination session to attend the additional term of exam in case of failing during the re-sit.

Special cases

In special cases (i.e. loss of the relative), pursuant to the § 43 point 1 of Study Rules and Regulations, the Dean may decide of justifying the absence during the exam and grant the right to take the exam during additional term. Such decision is taken based on documentation given.
