CIMA and the CGMA Professional Qualification

SGH Warsaw School of Economics, the university with academic tradition since 1906, continually cares about the quality of the programme offer presented to his students. The result of these efforts is cooperation with CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).

SGH Warsaw School of Economics in collaboration with CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) offers interdisciplinary specialty programmes in Polish and English at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to prepare students to take up better-paying positions in finance and accounting within international organizations. The SGH &CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting (SGH & CIMA - CBA) is offered at the undergraduate level, the SGH &CIMA Diploma in Management Accounting (CIMA &SGH - DMA) and SGH &CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting (CIMA & SGH – ADMA) are offered at the graduate level. The project, which aims to provide students with a thorough knowledge and practical skills needed on the labour market, was launched 1 October 2012.

About CIMA AND SGH-CIMA programmes

Founded in 1919, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants® (CIMA) is the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants.

CIMA is a founding body of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants®; its members and candidates operate in more than 150 countries and territories, working at the heart of business — in industry, commerce, the public sector, and not-for-profit organisations.
CIMA works closely with employers and sponsors leading-edge research, constantly updating its professional qualification and professional experience requirements to ensure it remains the employer’s choice when recruiting financially trained business leaders.

SGH-CIMA Initiative

SGH-CIMA initiative is a result of more than just analysing business environment and the changes it undergoes – it is an expression of anticipation of the accreditation criteria, as well as other standards related to or stemming from the National Qualification Framework. It is also an answer to educational demands of the students enabling them to gain important practical skills, which are of considerable value for employers.

The initiative introduced a qualitative change on the Polish education market. The Programme was established on 1 October 2012 owing to SGH’s efforts and CIMA’s pioneer involvement in terms of cooperation with a Polish university.

SGH earned CIMA’s recognition not only due to the university’s renown, but also – and perhaps primarily – due to the quality of education and its compatibility with professional qualification profile recognised by national and international business. With time, some other Polish universities followed in SGH’s footsteps.

Owing to the fact that the education programme is accredited by The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), current and future students of SGH have the chance to complete their studies with an additional qualifications which are highly valued on the labour market:

  • Certificate in Business Accounting (CBA – at first-cycle studies),
  • Diploma in Management Accounting (DMA – at second-cycle studies)
  • Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting (ADMA – at second-cycle studies).

The CGMA Professional Qualification, offered by CIMA, is a modern blend of finance and business. The exams take the form of realistic simulations that test practical skills and prepare candidates for real-world professional challenges. Starting in 2025, the program places even greater emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication, including topics such as sustainability and artificial intelligence.

The program is developed in collaboration with global employers, ensuring it meets current market needs. It teaches sound decision-making and prepares students for careers in finance - regardless of their role. It’s a great option for those who want to combine knowledge with practice and grow in a dynamic business environment.

With CGMA, you’ll gain financial, digital, and leadership competencies. You’ll learn to analyze data, think strategically, and advise on key decisions. Graduates work as financial controllers, auditors, CFOs, and banking experts. Importantly, your career position and salary can increase even while you’re still studying.

Our students are aware of the value of combining an SGH diploma with CIMA certificate, as attested by the unwavering interest in the interdisciplinary specializations offered at the university.
