SGH at the XXXII Economic Forum 2023 in Karpacz

Event date:
5. - 7.09.2023, All day
On September 5-7, 2023, Karpacz will host the XXXII Economic Forum – the most important and largest meeting of representatives of economic circles in Central and Eastern Europe in this part of the continent. The SGH Warsaw School of Economics is the major merits-related partner of the event.

The Forum will be inaugurated on September 5 with the presentation of the sixth edition of the SGH and Economic Forum 2023 Report, a comprehensive study prepared by SGH experts. It is one of the most comprehensive publications on the current economic situation in Poland and the CEE region. This year’s special supplement to the Report is an analysis by the European Investment Bank (EIB), based on a unique survey.

The presentation of the Report will take place on September 5, 2023 at noon at the Economic Forum and will be broadcast on SGH’s YouTube channel.

“The SGH and Economic Forum Report is a publication that annually since 2018 summarizes the most important economic and social processes taking place in Poland and the countries of the Central and Eastern European region. This year’s Report consists of 12 substantive chapters authored by dozens of SGH experts and a special supplement by the European Investment Bank. We are advised that our expert reports have for years enjoyed recognition among decision-makers and the business community. Interest in our analyses is gaining a wider reach; this is confirmed by our cooperation with the EIB on this year’s publication. SGH aims to initiate debate around the CEE region in a comparative perspective,” says SGH rector Piotr Wachowiak, PhD, SGH Professor.

Among the major themes covered in this year’s Report are the economic growth and development trajectories of the countries in our region. Factors affecting economic development are also the subject of analysis, including the decline in investment, which worries researchers, inflation, reaching for renewable energy sources and the pursuit of sustainable development.

“As every year, the SGH Warsaw School of Economics invites you to the SGH Zone, which will operate during the Forum in room 6.35 on the sixth floor of the Gołębiewski Hotel in Karpacz. We have prepared a rich program consisting of panel discussions and plenary sessions, covering the topics of the Report and other relevant issues related to the current economic situation in the country and in the region,” – indicates the SGH rector.

This year, 40 panels on a variety of topics are planned with the participation of SGH experts and external analysts, representatives of various levels of government and businessmen.

The SGH Zone will also be fully owned by students and doctoral students for the first time this year. The SGH Young Zone invites representatives of the SGH Student Union and Student Scientific Club: Macroeconomics and Finance, Energy, Statistics, Political Economy, Competitiveness Studies, Foreign Affairs, and Geopolitics and Strategy, in the mornings for “Morning Talks” and in the late evenings for “Evening Discussions”.

All invited guests will be able to talk in a slightly more relaxed atmosphere behind the scenes, in the SGH Zone.

On the evening of September 6, the second most important event for our university will take place after the presentation of the Report – the awarding of the SGH Economic Award. During the gala, rector Piotr Wachowiak will present a special award to a person who has made a special contribution to the formation of entrepreneurship and innovation, and thus contributed to the economic development of the region.

Also scheduled for September 6 is Evening with SGH – a networking event with the participation of the university’s authorities for SGH graduates and representatives of companies from the SGH Partners Club, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The event has a closed nature.

“Women at the Top” is an activity aimed at addressing the presence of women at political, business and other spheres. It will include an ascent of Śnieżka Mountain, led by SGH vice rector for research Agnieszka Chłoń-Domińczak, PhD, SGH Professor. All those interested are welcome to join. We will start on September 6 at 7:00 am in front of the Gołębiewski Hotel.

For the second year in a row, the SGH Studio will operate during the Economic Forum, where we will discuss socio-economic problems of the modern world in talks with experts from our university and invited guests. SGH Studio is organized in cooperation with “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” (national newspaper).
