The goal of the seminars is to create a forum for in-depth discussions in a less formal manner about current challenges for the cities. We see resilience, that is the ability to maintain high quality urban environment, providing for the societal needs as one of the most important aims of contemporary economics and politics. We see cooperation and exchange of knowledge, ideas, and shared perspectives as one of the best methods by which such resilience can be ensured. We warmly welcome academics, practitioners, and interested urban dwellers to join the debate.

Speakers:

  • Harald A. Mieg, (Keynote speaker, Humboldt University, Berlin): Professor at Humboldt University, Berlin. From 2005 to 2010 he was the first director of the Georg Simmel Centre for Metropolitan Research. He specializes in sustainable urban development and is particularly interested in combining research activities with the students’ learning process.
  • Bogna Gawrońska-Nowak (Krakow University of Economics): Professor at UEK, she specializes in the issues of instability and effectiveness of development policy. She is particularly interested in the dynamics of public opinion and research methods based on citizen science.
  • Katarzyna Sadowy (SGH): Professor at SGH Warsaw School of Economics. Architect-urban planner and economist, specializing in urban economics, she collaborates with local governments and cultural institutions and is particularly interested in the exchange of experiences between various urban actors.
  • Maria Fabiani (online): Senior Advisor for Metropolitan City of Rome Capital and lecturer at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Her special interest is research methodology and evaluation of public policies. In Rome she leads cross-cutting projects combining urban resilience, digital innovation and foresight.
  • Moderator – Aleksandra Jadach-Sepioło: Professor at SGH Warsaw School of Economics. An expert in the field of economics and urban revitalization, she specializes in urban revitalization issues, including the creation of institutional frameworks. She is particularly interested in the application of game theory in urban economics.
