The CIVICA Joint Course: Finance, Trade, and Business for Sustainable Development. The Role of the Private Sector in Sustainable Development concentrates on presenting, analyzing and discussing the phenomena and the challenges the private sector faces when engaging in sustainable development.
The Course has been designed by SGH and IE University (Madrid, Spain). This course will explore alternative models of economic progress and try to assess whether humanity can achieve sustainable development while respecting and regenerating the natural resources of our planet. What is the role of the private sector in this new framework? The course will also introduce students to the core concepts of social entrepreneurship and social impact, providing examples of social enterprises that are working to put regenerative and distributive practices at the heart of their operations. Special attention will be given to social enterprises that sustainably address the needs of the base of the pyramid, or the world’s poorest segment of the population. Practical case studies, workshops and discussions will encourage students to develop skills in structured and critical thinking, problem solving and using different tools for measuring and monitoring ESG indicators.
