About the Department of Philosophy

The staff includes academics with diverse research specialisations, including history of philosophy, ethics and the political philosophy to the philosophy of of science. Current interests focus on topics at the intersection of philosophy and political science.

History

The Department of Philosophy was incorporated into the Collegium of Socio-Economics (then Faculty) in 1968. Previously, it had been part of the Faculty of Internal Trade. The department was successively headed by:

  • doc. dr hab. Leszek Gilejko
  • doc. dr hab. Roman Rudziński
  • prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Płużański
  • prof. dr hab. Stanisław Piwko
  • dr hab. Joachim Osiński, prof. SGH.
  • dr hab. Justyna Nowotniak-Poręba, prof. SGH 

In 2013 the Department of Philosophy was transformed into the Philosophy Unit.and became part of the newly established Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Economic Sociology. In 2024 the unit was transformed again into the Department of Philosophy.
