


The tradition of awarding honorary doctorates appeared at the university in the mid-1960s. Professor Wiesław Sadowski was the Rector of the Central School of Planning and Statistics (SGPiS) then. The Soviet mathematician and economist Leonid Witalewicz Kantorowicz was the first to receive this title in 1968. The graduation ceremony took place in May 1976.

The detailed procedure related to the symbols of SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Warsaw and the cultivation of its traditions and customs is set out in the Annex to the Rector’s Order No. 7 of 10 March 2017.

The SGH Warsaw School of Economics campus is on the monument conservator’s list both due to the buildings’ unique architectural value and the planning solutions.
The first design by Jan Witkiewicz-Koszczyc was that of a large palatial complex with two guard-houses and a yard visible from the front and an inner garden between the buildings. That concept fell through both for want of financial resources and of decision-makers’ imagination.
