Repeat the semester, the course, conditional consent – Undergraduate Studies

Issues concerning failing a semester, course repetition, conditional consent to continue studying in the next semester and semester repetition are specified by par. 28 of Rules and Regulations of Study.

Requests for conditional consent to continue studying in the next semester (spring semester 2023/2024) or semester repetition can be submitted through Virtual Dean’s Office within the strict deadline of 21 Feb. 2024 to 08 Mar. 2024.

Students who obtain the Dean’s consent for the extension of the session, if the above deadline expires, must submit application by USOSweb or in person within 14 days from the date of the examination in the extended session.

In order to pass a semester, a student needs to receive credits in all the declared courses, all courses mandatory at a given semester of studies and all mandatory trainings as stipulated in the study plan.

In reference to a student who failed a semester, the dean may decide to:

  1. order the student to repeat the course and grant a conditional consent to continue studying in the next semester, or;
  2. order the student to repeat the semester, or;
  3. remove the student from the student list.

The possibility of getting conditional consent to continue studying on the next semester or course repetition has several constraints:

  1. decisions in those cases are taken solely upon student’s request, submitted within the deadline of 14 days from the last day of the re-sit session or the last day of the prolonged session or the date of the examination before the examination board,
  2. course repletion or conditional consent to continue studying on the next semester is impossible for:
    • students of the first semester – should they fail more than one course or mandatory training. If a first semester student fails more than one course/training, it always results in the removal from the student list,
    • second and higher semester students failing more than two courses – in which case, only semester repetition can be requested,
    • students who wish to repeat a course for the second time.
  3. Upon receipt of conditional consent to continue studying the student declares courses according to the study plan and additionally the repeated one/ones. The deadline for passing a repeated course is one semester unless the course is available only every second semester. Should there be a collision between a mandatory course and a repeated course, the student should prioritize the mandatory course over the repeated one, which shall be declared next semester. The student is obliged to declare the repeated course.
  4. Semester repetition relies upon participation and passing failed courses. The only courses available on a repeated semester are the repeated courses. No other courses shall be declared during the repeated semester. An exception might be made for foreign language courses, should the dean’s permission be requested and received.
  5. In principle, subsequent repetition of a failed semester cannot be requested. However, par. 28 of Rules and Regulations of Study defines special conditions, under which this might be made possible – if the advancement of studies is high. This especially concerns sixth semester students.
