Stages of doctoral dissertation

STAGES OF DOCTORAL DISSERTATION

Initial conditions:
The theses of dissertations are presented and discussed during doctoral seminars or Chairs’ meetings.

Conditions necessary for opening a doctoral dissertation at the Collegium of Management and Finance:

An advanced work done on the doctoral dissertation (confirmed by the promoter’s opinion) and articles published in renowned periodicals.

Documents necessary for opening a doctoral dissertation (in Polish):

  1. an application addressed to the Dean of the Collegium, Prof. Janusz Ostaszewski, to open a doctoral dissertation (the application should comprise the title of the dissertation and information on who the promoter will be),
  2. the promoter’s opinion concerning the PhD student and his doctoral dissertation,
  3. a certified copy of the MA’s diploma,
  4. a detailed resume (or CV),
  5. a draft of the doctoral dissertation (a formulated thesis of the dissertation, the contents of each chapter presented on some 10 pages),
  6. a list of publications,
  7. an extract from the protocol of the Chair’s meeting confirming the members’ acceptance of the dissertation.

Depositing the PhD dissertation at the Collegium’s Bureau in five copies (including one copy for the promoter) and the promoter’s letter accepting the thesis as a doctoral dissertation.

At the Scientific Council’s meeting (in a secret ballot) promoters are appointed and PhD examinations are set in the following areas:

• the basic discipline,
• additional discipline,
• a foreign language from the group of modern languages.

After he has obtained one favourable review, the PhD student has the right to take PhD examinations.

After the PhD student has obtained two favourable reviews and has satisfactorily passed his doctoral examinations, the Scientific Council will accept the doctoral dissertation and set the date and the Commission for the public PhD examination.

After a satisfactory PhD examination, the Scientific Council approves the Commission’s for public PhD examination notion concerning granting the PhD student the doctoral degree of a PhD in Economic Sciences (in economy or management sciences).
