History of the Chair

  • 1956 – Establishment of the Chair for International Law at the Foreign Trade Faculty of Central School of Planning and Statistics, under the head of it’s initiator Prof. Ph.D. Kazimierz Libera. Mgr. Andrzej Całus became his first assistant. At the beginning, the Chair included two divisions: Division for International Law and Division for Comparative Civil Law and International Private Law (headed by Prof. Ph.D. Henryk Trammer). In the Chair for International Law their scientific careers started: Prof. Ph.D. Jerzy Jakubowski, Prof. Ph.D. Krystyna Michałowska-Gorywoda, Prof. Ph.D. Stanisław Wodejko, Prof. Ph.D. Zbigniew Klepacki, Prof. Ph.D. Maria Frankowska, Prof. Ph.D. Kazimierz Równy.

 

  • Since 1971 the Chair was headed by Prof. Ph.D. Wojciech Morawiecki and since 1975 by Ph.D Hab. Andrzej Całus. His first assistant was Mgr. (nowadays Ph.D.) Józef Oleksy, later Prime Minister of Poland and Speaker of Sejm (lower chamber of the Parliament) and the next one Mgr. (nowadays Prof. Ph.D.) Anna Mokrysz-Olszyńska.

 

  • In 1981 Prof. Ph.D. Andrzej Całus became the Head of the Chair for International Law and created his own research team and developed research and teaching program adjusted to the needs of foreign trade. Two divisions were created within the Chair: Division for Comparative Commercial Law and Division for International Organizations and International Public Law (headed until 1993 by Prof. Ph.D. Wojciech Morawiecki). In the eighties the Chair for International Law became main (and probably unique in Poland at those times) research center of foreign civil and commercial law. In that period the Chair was joined by Mgr. (nowadays Prof. Ph.D.) Gabriel Wujek, Mgr. (nowadays Prof. Ph.D.) Andrzej Janik, Mgr. (nowadays Ph.D.) Janusz Marciniuk, Mgr. (nowadays Ph.D.) Marek Szmelter.

 

  • In 1994 one of the Chair Divisions was transformed into separate Chair of International Relations headed by Prof. Ph.D. Krystyna Michałowska-Gorywoda.

 

  • In 199? r. Mgr (nowadays Ph.D.) Konrad Fiałkowski and in 2000 r. Mgr. Cezary Herma joined the Chair for International Law.

 

  • In 2005 Prof. Ph.D. Anna Mokrysz-Olszyńska became the Head of the Chair for International Law.
  • August 2009 - Ph. D. Bartosz Targański joint the Chair for International Law.
  • Until 2011  the Chair for International Law includes 3 divisions: Division for International Public Law; Division for Comparative Commercial and International Law; Division for Competition and Consumer Protection Law.
  • Pursuant to the Ordinance of the Rector of Warsaw School of Economics dated 4 April, 2011,  the Chair for International Law merged with the Chairfor International Economic Organisations. The Head of the new Chair has become Prof. Ph.D. Jerzy Menkes.
