Economic Geography Department is one of the oldest departments at the Warsaw School of Economics. It was set up as an essential department of the school to conduct the researches and teaching. The lectures in economic geography are held since the Warsaw School of Economics was funded. The Department was managed by prominent specialists in economic geography field: Antoni Sujkowski, Jerzy Loth, Mieczysław Fleszar, Stanisław Berezowski and Irena Fierla.
The Department of Economic Geography specializes in the following fields: firms' location aspects, regional development and space economy.
The academic staff that is associated with the Department of Economic Geography conduct the researches in:
- European integration and its implications for Polish economy,
- foreign direct investment and its location factors,
- location of economic activity,
- exogenous factors (global and European) of cities development,
- regional and local development,
- restructuring of industrial agglomerations,
- knowledge and innovation as regional development factor,
- spatial determinants of human communictation.
