About us
Chair of Mathematical Economics (Polish abbrevation - KEM) was founded in 2002 from the previously existing Section of Mathematical Economics in the Institute of Econometrics. KEM currently employes several top class specialists in mathematics and mathematical economics, including modelling economical phenomena and practical economy. The scope of interests of the employees of the Chair consists of both purely theoretical problems in economy and specific practical applications, it ranges from microeconomical models to modelling macroeconomical processes and financial issues.
High qualifications of the employees are proven by numerous papers in both national and foreign journals, including those from ISI Master Journal List. Our staff also takes part in discussions about current and future economical situation in Poland in popular newspapers.
The role of quantitative methods, among those mathematical economics, is constantly increasing. The importance of those techniques is irrefutable, which is shown for example by a large number of Nobel Prize laureates using and creating quantative models and methods. Simultaneously, quantative models and methods are being used in practice more and more often and in a greater scope: from banking and insurance up to management and marketing. This process is most easily seen in qualification tests in/for a lot of market/economic institutions, which usually contain a part related to quantative methods.
The mission of KEM is the development of (broadly meant) mathematical economics on an international level and giving the students an opportunity to get acquainted with its modern aspects and applications, including teaching them the necessary mathematical skills. Knowledge of those techniques facilitates starting the first job, learning new abilities, getting new qualifications and improving old ones. The best students have the possibility of starting a scientific career.
