International conference on "Europe in the World Economy Beyond the Sovereign Debt Crisis"
Institute of International Economics in cooperation with partners from German universities kindly invite you to the international conference on "Europe in the World Economy Beyond the Sovereign Debt Crisis" to be held on May 31 - June 1, 2012 at the Warsaw School of Economics.
The conference is aimed at analyzing the implications of institutional reforms at the European level, changes in the relations between the current EU members and neighbouring regions, and the integration of Europe into the world economy. The conference will be accompanied by a Ph.D. workshop.
The ongoing sovereign debt crisis in Europe shows that international integration not only generates benefits in terms of higher growth and a better allocation of scarce resources. International integration also exposes countries to common shocks, it may magnify the negative effects of distortions in financial markets, and it raises the issue of cross-border burden sharing of the resulting losses. At present, the institutional framework of the European Monetary Union is being overhauled in order to reduce the risks of future crises and to deal with the costs of the present crisis. The future relationships between EMU and EU-members is particularly important for a small open economy like Poland.
We look forward to meeting you in Warsaw and hope you will find this website informative and useful.
