WORLD ECONOMY RESEARCH INSTITUTE
 
The World Economy Research Institute (WERI) is a scientific and academic unit of the Collegium of World Economy at the Warsaw School of Economics.
It conducts research on the global economy as well as international economic and financial relations, analyzing their impact on the Polish economy.
The key areas of WERI’s research activity are the global aspects of economic development, foreign trade and foreign direct investment, innovation processes and their impact on competitiveness. Selected regions of the world economy are analyzed in depth, in particular the economic development of Poland and other Central and Eastern European countries, the United States, East Asian countries, Germany and the Baltic states.
Research results are published in numerous books and reports and the “Working Papers” series in Polish and English.
Since 2005 the Institute’s director is Professor Marzenna Anna Weresa.

7th World Economy Research Institute’s Annual Conference on
 
Innovation and Education:
Drivers of National and Regional Competitiveness in the 21st century
 
Warsaw, May 28-29, 2012
The World Economy Research Institute at the Warsaw School of Economics is pleased to announce its 7th Annual Conference on economics of competitiveness and innovation.  The conference aims at stimulating the discussion between international researchers conducting rela­ted empirical and theoretical analysis. In addition, the conference will focus on policy implications of recent re­search. Topics of interest: Theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented contributions from all areas of the econo­mics of innovation and competitiveness are welcome.
We invite papers related to the following topics:
·         the issues of innovation systems in macro and micro scale economics and their role in the process of building competitive advantage of countries, regions and enterprises;
·         education policies and their impact on human capital development and innovation potential of countries or enterprises;
·         research on innovation and education issues as well as recommendations for the Polish economic policy.
Selected papers will be published in the working paper series of the World Economy Research Institute.
SUBMISSION: Authors are invited to submit abstracts electronically (up to 250 words in MS Word or PDF format) to weri@sgh.waw.pl. They should contain the title; name of the author(s), affiliation, address, telephone, fax numbers and e-mail addresses.
DEADLINES: The deadline for abstract submissions is March 30, 2012.Notifications on acceptance not later than April 13, 2012.  Participants presenting a paper are asked to submit a full text version not later than May, 6, 2012.

FURTHER INFORMATION: The conference fee is €30 (or 120 PLN). It covers lunches, coffee and non-alcoholic beverages, the con­ference dinner and conference package, including the latest edition of Poland. Competitivenes Report 2012. For participants who present a paper
there is no conference fee.
