Wprowadzenie do spotkania:

While many aspects of innovation are critical for the growth of modern economies and societies, it is certainly not enough to know or even to practice today what the experts write on the subject. It is much more important to have the future generations prepared to venture into the professional life with open minds.  They must realize that if they don’t actively partake in the creation of the future – the essence of innovation – the future will be created for them by the others.

Although innovation has always played an essential role in the history of humanity, it is only recently that the concept of innovation has been subject to intensive studies resulting in an overwhelming number of publications and presentations. One of the major accelerating factors for this growing interest in innovation is globalization. This seminar will offer a few pointed comments about the process of globalization.  It will illustrate how some innovative individuals, companies, and even countries take the opportunity to ride this “wave,” while others can hardly cope with it. Examples from some well established and the emerging economies will lead to a discussion of innovation in Poland.

In Poland there are unique opportunities for innovative people and organizations that are offered by the new global trend towards openness of the innovative process. To take full advantage of this opportunity a systemic approach to innovation is needed to establish the necessary infrastructure.

This seminar will cover the subject of innovation as seen through the eyes of a practitioner who has 25 years of R&D experience in one of the world’s leading innovative companies.  It will begin with a discussion of some background including the definition of some basic terms.  It will go on to emphasize the need for a systemic approach to implementing innovation which always requires a team of individuals with a wide variety of skills.  The primary focus of the presentation will be on the technological aspects of innovation, although the concepts covered will also be related to other areas.

This seminar will highlight the role of education, especially academic training, in creating a “culture of innovation” in Poland. It will also discuss the need for an interdisciplinary approach to this problem (and opportunity) as an introduction to an open discussion on innovation.
