Axa Research Fund PROJECTS 2011

In 2011, the AXA Research Fund allocates a global budget of approximately 3,5 million euro to fund innovative research projects. The AXA Research Fund supports projects which are carried out either by individual researchers or by individual research teams headed by a single principal investigator. The project must be carried out within 5 years maximum. There is no restriction on the amount requested.

In order to apply, please send the preliminary application to:

no later than April 18, 2011 with a short description of the research project, team leader and a list of the researchers.


Main research areas:
Applications are expected to come from any discipline as long as they are related to the following 3 main fields:
ENVIRONMENTAL RISK – natural hazard, climate change;
LIFE RISK – ageing and long-term care, addictions and risky behaviors, emerging biomedical risks;
SOCIO-ECONOMIC RISK – geopolitical risk, macroeconomic, financial and social risk, large corporate risk.

Application should tackle one of the eligible research relying on several of the following approaches:
a) Risk identification and definition
b) Risk assessment and measure
c) Risk modeling
d) Risk mitigation
e) Decision making process when facing risk
f) Risk prevention

1. Application
    Applications are filled in online by the principal investigators of the projects.
    1. Research project title and summary (max 4800 characters spaces included)
    2. Project research team biographies
    3. Research project description (around 10 pages) indicating: general background information   on current and past research work, national and international context contemplated, planned or existing collaborative work, scientific objectives of the research project, value of research project: patents, intellectual rights
    4. Project plan and duration (in months)
    5. Research design and methods
    6. Costs and fees, budget file (on the template)
2. Review of application by international referees
    Main selection criteria:
    - Originality and innovative nature of the project
    - Academic excellence
    Secondary criteria:
    - International scope of the project
    - Contribution to strengthening international networks
    - Interdisciplinary aspect
    - Organization and coherence of the budget
3. Communication of results:
    The Scientific Board selects the final applications
    The Fund announces the projects selected for funding on its website
    The Fund contacts the selected applicants jointly with the operational contact to start the   contracting process with the institution.
